Admission to this program is competitive and limited. To be considered for admission, you must submit a completed application, maintain a 3.0 cumulative USU GPA (incoming freshmen must have a 3.0 high school GPA), and submit a written essay detailing your experience and interest in civic engagement, community service, and volunteerism.

The essay is very important to the success of your application. Your application will not be considered without the essay.

In the essay, please discuss the following:

  • Why are you interested in and committed to community and civic engagement?
  • What community action have you taken in the past?
  • How did you learn about the Community Engaged Scholars program?
  • What do you hope to accomplish through the program?
  • How do you think you will benefit from and contribute to a community of scholars who are eager to apply their academic work to community service?
  • How will you use this experience in your future career or life goals?

To receive the Community Engaged Scholar designation, you must complete a minimum of 9 credit hours of approved Community Engaged Learning courses, record 400 service hours, and develop and complete a capstone project and a reflective e-portfolio. Service Hours can be counted starting the semester the student is accepted into the program.
